Workshops at the Whitney Academy
critics John Patkau with Timothy Newton
Located at the former site of Eli Whitney's ammunitions factory, the Eli Whitney Museum supports a myriad of community outreach programs hosted in its small collection of heterogeneous, cramped spaces. Linking the disparate fragments of an improvised campus, the proposed workshops at the Whitney Academy are housed in a compacted, four-story structure located at the river's edge. The project is positioned at the threshold between East Rock Park and the industrial grounds, framing a historic link between the site's historic covered bridge and barn building located on opposite side of Whitney Avenue.
